The Longlands Accessibility Guide

Longlands Luxury Glamping provides tented accommodation in five luxurious Safari lodges: Lundy, Lee, Luscombe, Lynton & Lynmouth.

Each of our lodges nestles into the hillside within a private secluded valley, and is set in 17 acres of the North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We are on the western border of Exmoor National Park, overlooking the North Devon Coast.

 Two Easy Access Lodges

Lundy, is the lodge nearest to our Larder shop, and has a flat path to access it. We can arrange for parking near the shop if need be. Lynmouth, at the far end of the site has its own parking area directly behind the lodge and very short gentle slope into the back area of the lodge.

Other Lodges

The other three three lodges are accessed by stoned paths that are steep in places, but do have steps. Parking for these lodges is in the car park above the lodges. You are welcome to request a specific lodge for your stay.

There is good mobile phone reception on site with 3G and if you need access to wifi you can connect to our network in the shop on request of our password.

Lighting

We have fitted electrical LED lamps in the living area of the lodge to give brighter, safer and more reliable lighting than was previously possible with paraffin lanterns. We have also added a reading lamp next to the sofa.

There are also electrical lights in the shower and loo cabins. We have made the switch in the loo cabin easy to find at night by means of a small green indicator light.

We provide Solar powered and rechargeable lanterns for the bedrooms and to use around the land. We also provide tea lights & holders and candle lamps if you wish for a more romantic atmosphere!

Arrival & Car Parking

The driveway to Longlands Glamping Devon is directly off the A399 and there is a large sign at the entrance so you shouldn’t miss us. The driveway is half a mile long and is tarmac covered all the way down to the Farmhouse. It is single track, but there are plenty of passing places. The section between the signpost and farmhouse is particularly steep. Please drive slowly as there may be any number of animals sunning themselves, never mind other guests and children!

When you arrive please drive down to the farmhouse and we will show you to your lodge. You may take your car down to the lodge in order to unpack and once you have done so we ask that you take your car up to the car park. For the rest of your stay we would ask you to park in the car park and walk down the footpath to your lodge. If you need to drive down to pick up and drop off you can do so, but there is no parking in front of the lodges as we operate a car free site for the enjoyment of all.

The track from the lodges up to the car park is a stoned track, as are all the footpaths on site. There are steps in the steeper sections of the footpaths.

If there is no one in your party able to walk the fairly steep track up to the car park from the lodges then please call or email and request one of our end lodges: either Lundy or Lynmouth as it is possible to park near each of these so that it is a short flat walk to the car.

If guests are joining you please can you ensure that they have all the information that they will need and that they arrive no later than 8pm. Anyone arriving at this time must park in the car park and walk down with their bags, in consideration of guests.

We have space in the car park for 2 cars per lodge. If you have no alternative but to bring a third car please call us so we can make arrangements for additional parking.

Check in is from 4pm but it may be possible to arrive earlier by prior arrangement. Please plan your journey to ensure you arrive before 7pm as we need time to show you how everything works and it is definitely advisable to arrive during daylight hours as we have no exterior lighting around the lodges. Part of our attraction is the dark nights so that you can enjoy the stunning starlight displays.

Please don’t hesitate to ask for help with your bags or use of an umbrella if it is raining. There is one in every lodge for use during your stay.

Longlands Lodges

Access to the lodges is over a flat bridge onto a 3m by 5m deck area. There is a fly sheet to provide protection from both sun and rain. From here you can sit back on one of our armchairs or outdoor sofa to enjoy views of the setting sun on the sea.

The canvas door is five foot wide and opens into the main living and kitchen area. A three foot wide door way leads into the king bedroom and into the twin bedroom there is a two foot clearance between the bed end and the canvas bedroom divider.

There are no stairs within the lodge. Everything inside is on one flat level area.

Each lodge has carbon monoxide detectors in the living area and the shower cabin. There are fire extinguishers in easy reach of both the wood burners and a fire blanket in the kitchen area.

In an emergency all doorways can be pulled from the walls by way of white loops in each of the top two corners. Doors are attached by means of Velcro that will detach when pulled away. There is an exit through the back of the lodge as well as the front.

We do not permit smoking within the lodges or on the wooden decks. There is a sand bucket outside the back of the lodge for the disposal of cigarette ends.

Each lodge has full details of emergency procedures, a first aid box and contacts for all levels of medical intervention from pharmacy, GP, minor injuries units through to North Devon A&E just 20 minutes away

Dogs

We allow up to 2 dogs in each lodge and provide a bed, towel and bowls. We charge a £25 supplement per dog with the exception of assistance dogs.

Our gated decked area should keep all but the smallest or spriteliest dogs contained. But if in doubt the ladder side under the cabin bed makes an excellent additional containment field!

Under each lodge is a bin for bagged dog poo and a hose should they find something delightful to roll in! Our natural aromatherapy shampoo works equally on dogs as well as people!

Please keep dogs on leads at all times. They can be let off lead in our woodland area behind Lynmouth.

The glamping Shop at Longlands Glamping

Larder Shop

We have an on site honesty shop that is always open and sells everything from snacks through to toothpaste and toothbrushes. We can also cater for every meal of your stay so you don’t have to leave the site or get in your car if you don’t wish to!

Allergy advice for all our foods is printed on the order forms within the lodge.

Within the shop is a fridge that guests are welcome to make use of if they cannot fit everything in their lodge cool box or need lower temperatures for the storage of medicines, baby or dog food. We can also provide space in one of our freezers if necessary.

Land

The lodges look down onto the football field and the cricket net above it. Beyond this area the lake and jetty are visible from the deck of each lodge along with our skiff ‘Little Bird’. We provide life jackets and ask that children are always accompanied when boating. Our lake is also used for wild swimming so please do keep an eye out for other guests when enjoying your activity.

This area is all grassed and may be slippery in wet conditions, particularly the short slope between the football area and lakeside meadow. The football area is kept well mown and we cut paths through the meadow to reach the lake.

To get to the lake you will need to cross the football field, go down a short slope, though the meadow area and step over a narrow stream.

Next to the Larder shop we have a netball hoop, a basketball hoop, giant chess, giant Jenga and table tennis. This area is gravelled.

We also have streamside walks and nature trails through our woods. Please keep to paths at all times and be aware that paths are uneven and may be slippery in wet conditions. Please take care.

There is good mobile phone reception on site with 3G and if you need access to wifi you can connect to our network in the shop.

You do not have to declare any of this to your children, partners or spouses should you choose!
