More About Our Lodges
Our five luxurious Safari Lodges each sleep 6 people, and up to 2 dogs. There is a King Bedroom, a Twin Bedroom and a Double Cabin Bed. Each bed is made up with luxurious bed linen and a 4.5+9=13.5 tog duvet, so you can decide how warm or cool you want your bed to be! We also provide hot water bottles & blankets, should you need them.
Each lodge has its own en-suite shower room and separate en-suite wash room, with flushing loo and basin. Hot water for the shower, sink and basin is provided by a wood burning boiler, that also ensures the shower room is warm as toast! We provide all the bath linen you should need, plus a gorgeous range of natural aromatherapy bathroom products, including shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and body lotion! Also provided are basic essentials such as loo paper, cotton wool, hand towels, hand soap and hand cream.
At the heart of the lodge is our wood burning stove: it will keep the lodge warm in all weathers, and provides a means of cooking, either on top, as you would on a hob, or in its spacious oven compartment. There is even a slot for warming your plates! We do also provide a small gas ring so that you can enjoy a cup of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate (all included within the lodge) without having to fire up the stove.
The kitchen is fully equipped with cooking utensils, pots, pans, crockery, cutlery and glassware, kitchen roll, cling film, foil, bin bags, washing up essentials, tea towels, hand towel, as well as fresh herbs and essential condiments. It even has its own mains supplied sink! There is also a small cool box with ice bricks that you can replenish from our freezer at any time, plus a shelf in the Larder fridge, should you require it.
The three seater leather vintage chesterfield and blanket box, filled with our favourite games, will ensure you are both comfortable and entertained, whilst you bask in the warmth of the wood burner. Alternatively, gather around the dining table for a candlelit dinner or a more serious game of Scrabble or Monopoly!
You can't beat the romantic atmosphere of a candlelit lodge but it is not the ideal light by which to read, write, paint, play or wash up. For this reason we have fitted electrical LED lamps in the living area of the lodge to give brighter, safer and more reliable lighting than was previously possible with paraffin lanterns. We have also added a reading lamp next to the sofa. There are also electrical lights in the shower and loo cabins.
The large deck area at the front of the lodge has a sofa, table and chairs so you can sit back and enjoy the amazing views over the lake and valley, down to the sea in the day, and the star filled sky at night. In fact the lodges look out onto one of the few Dark Sky Reserves in the world.
There is an even better view from the BBQ platform! Each lodge has its own private BBQ area to the right and above the lodge. There you will find a Kadai fire bowl for BBQing and a bench from which to enjoy the view, and in the lodge there are BBQing tools. Charcoal and Marshmallows are available from the Larder shop and BBQ basket can be ordered from the menu.
Whilst we would love you to unplug from the modern world while you are with us we do recognise that there are occasions when this is not possible. All our lodges have an electrical socket that can be used to charge phones and power medical equipment or other devices such as hairdryers. There is good mobile phone reception on site with 3G and if you need access to wifi you can connect to our network in the shop on request of our password. You do not have to declare any of this to your children, partners or spouses should you choose!
We are happy to welcome up 2 dogs in each lodge and we provide a bed, towel and bowls. We charge a £25 supplement per dog, with the exception of assistance dogs.
Our gated decked area should keep all but the smallest or spriteliest dogs contained. But if in doubt the ladder side under the cabin bed makes an excellent additional containment field! Please do not leave dogs unattended. They always let us know when they are!
Under each lodge is a bin for bagged dog poo and a hose should they find something delightful to roll in! Our natural aromatherapy shampoo works equally on dogs as well as people!
We ask that you keep dogs on leads at all times around the lodges, Larder shop and lake areas as we have cats, chickens and ducks and sometimes sheep! They can be let off lead in our woodland area behind Lynmouth.
Within our Adventure book we provide details on which pubs and beaches are dog friendly. Trudie Norman, one of the Longlands team, offers a dog sitting service if you need to leave your dog for a few hours or half day. Call her on 07792 536493. If you wish to leave your dog for a longer period call Shirley from Dog Walking-Sitting on 07765 154549 or 01271 812340.
Babies & Toddlers
Each lodge has a toddler loo seat, a change mat, a high chair and removable cot sides for the Cabin Bed, but we can also provide a travel cot on request, particularly if older siblings are demanding use of the cabin bed!
We will provide bedding for the travel cot but please bring a sleeping bag and any much loved blankets and cuddlies! Don’t despair if Pooky Bear got left behind: there are cuddly creatures for sale in the Larder shop along with many other entertainments!
