Surfing

Coasteering

For those wanting an adventure with an adrenaline rush try coasteering at Hele Bay, Ilfracombe, with Xtreme Coasteering or Watermouth Bay, Ilfracombe, with Active Escape. Either way you are sure of a buzz!

Rock Climbing & Abseiling

What goes up, must come down! Try your hand at rock climbing and abseiling near Lynton with Exmoor Adventures – one of the only companies with a license to climb at the stunning Valley of the Rocks on the North Devon coast. Coastal Adventures near longlands

Hang Gliding

For a completely different view of the North Devon coast take to the air on a Tandem Hang Glide with Fly Like a Bird. Most flights are over Woolacombe Beach with stunning views out to Lundy.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding (SUP)

Active Escape offer SUP from Watermouth Harbour. There are some magical bays that you can only discover and explore from the water. Book a taster session where you’ll learn how to use the board safely, then you’ll have a couple of hours to explore many hidden caves and gullies.

Kayaking

If you would prefer to paddle along the coast line in a more reclined position hire a kayak from Surf Side in Combe Martin. They’re continually awarded a certificate of excellence by Tripadvisor and also offer guided kayaking tours so that you can enjoy local knowledge of secret spots amassed over the years.

Cycling

With 400 miles of bridleways, beautiful moorlands and scenic wooded valleys Exmoor is one of the premier locations for mountain biking in the UK. Exmoor Adventures offers bike hire and guided rides.

The Tarka Trail

For more relaxed cycling the Tarka Trail, along the estuary and around Braunton Burrows, is a lovely flat family friendly cycle ride. Fremington Quay is our favourite start point and John’s of Instow our usual end point! Bikes can be hired from Bike Trails next door to Fremington Quay Café. If you prefer to cycle from Braunton to Barnstaple, or further, then Otter Bikes in Braunton is the place to to go to hire.

Quad Biking

If you prefer your bike with an engine then try quad biking! Quad Biking Devon caters for all ages from 6 years, for all abilities, and apparently “the wetter, the better!”

Horse Riding

Dean Riding Stables, just over the hill from Longlands, offer lessons or hacks over Exmoor and down to Hunters Inn. Outovercott also offer riding lessons and hacks through Valley of the Rocks and Lee Abbey. To ride on Woolacombe Beach and through the dunes call Woolacombe Riding Stables.

Trampolining

Get jumping at Air Extreme  in Barnstaple. This is an indoor activity so good for the odd rainy day! Those who don’t jump, will never fly!

Walking

Weave through winding valleys and along coastal paths: the Tarka Trail and south west coast path, with its stunning views of the North Devon coast, is only minutes away from Longlands. Heddon Valley, Watersmeet and Valley of the Rocks are not much further. We have numerous books and maps of local coastal and Exmoor walks. Please ask us and we’ll happily lend them to you.
